Fiber Technology vs Wireless Technology

Posted by Alpesh on 1/12/2017

Most of the countries in the world use two popular technology for the internet service 1) Wireless Technology and 2) Fiber Technology.

But both technologies have some advantages and disadvantages. In this blog, we give you a difference between these two technologies. Let see the comparison of these technologies.

In the wireless technology, we have to use wireless components like antenna, radios, access point and many more to access the internet service from ISP to our home. On the other side, we can get high speed internet connection using the fibre optic cable, Optical Line Terminal (OLT), Optical Network Unit(ONU), PLC Splitter and other equipments.

New Solution: GPON/GEPON link with MikroTik Switch, RB2011UiAS-RM,hAP ac or hAP Lite AC as ONU/ONT

Here in this blog, we just give you a generalize idea about GPON/GEPON basic link with MikroTik switch as ONU/ONT to provide high speed internet access to many customers.

The basic structure of a GPON/GEPON link with new solution is shown in the figure below.

  • In the network diagram you can see that you can use the Mikrotik Switch,RB2011UiAS-RM,hAP ac and hAP Lite AC as an ONU/ONT to support more customers. In traditional GEPON/GPON network,we have to buy 1-port,2port or 4-port ONU and the ONU serves the customer according to the number of ports. For many customer`s connection you have to use many number of ONUs/ONTs.What is the solution for that?Is there any cost effective solution available?

  • What if someone use the same fiber infrastucture to provied the Wi-Fi connectivity to different building or office?

  • Solution: you can use your MikroTik switch with a PON module as an ONU/ONT.There are upto 24 Ports MikroTik switch is available in the market today with GPON/GEPON module. So instead of many ONU/ONT ,you can use just one MikroTik switch to get the high speed internet connection.

The basic components of GPON/GEPON link remains same like OLT,PLC Splitter, Fiber Cable but we have to just replace the ONU/ONT with the switch or other MikroTik routerboard devices to provide high speed internet connection to many customers. For that you need PON SFP Module which is compitible to MikroTik products.

Fiber or Wireless? Why not both?

Fiber or Wireless? Why not both?

Multilink Solutions Inc. your total networking solution provider launched a new solution combining fiber & WiFi. We are Authorized Master Distributors for Mikrotik & Revo FTTH products.

We have designed a New Networking Solution specially for MDU's, Group housing & Small Offices blending existing technology & fiber. Please find the attachment to see how the architecture looks like.

Using fiber technology as backbone at ISP end & Mikrotik Routers at customer end you can provide high speed internet service at economic prices. Our Revo OLT's are available with different configurations according to your requirement. Instead of using ONU at customer end you can still use your Mikrotik routers with PoE ports. The PoE in & PoE out ports help you extend the network providing WiFi or wired internet access.
